If you enjoy multitasking, you can play YouTube in the background on your iPhone and iPad. This means you can use other applications while listening to your favorite content. Normally, this feature is only available on the premium version of YouTube, but in this post, we will show you two alternative methods to try. Let’s see.
How to Play YouTube Videos in the Background on iOS 14
With iOS 14, Apple has introduced a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode on the iPhone. Now, it’s not easy to play YouTube videos in the background.
For this, open any browser (like Safari, Chrome, Firefox). Next, play the video and tap the full screen icon. Finally, tap the PiP icon from the top left. The video plays in a small pop. Swipe everything right or left and enjoy YouTube playback in the background.
Pro Tip: Don’t want to tap on the PiP icon? Open the Settings application → General → Picture in Picture → activate the switch to Start PiP Automatically. From now on, when the video is playing in full screen, just swipe up from the bottom of the screen to enter PiP mode.
You cannot get background playback on the YouTube app because this is YouTube’s Premium feature.
How to Play YouTube in the Background on iOS 13
