How to Set Chrome as Default Browser in iOS 14 on iPhone

iOS 14 introduces some impressive new features, including changing the default browser and email app. IPhone users have been asking for this for a long time! Finally, you can now use Google Chrome as your default browser instead of Safari. After this, all links from other applications and documents will open in Chrome, not in Apple’s browser. So without further delay, let’s learn how to set Chrome as your default browser on iPhone and iPad.

How to Make Chrome Your Default Browser on iPhone and iPad

Before you start:

  • Update Google Chrome to version 85.0.4183.109. For this, long press the App Store icon and tap on Updates. Tap UPDATE next to Google Chrome. If you don’t see the update, drag this screen down to refresh it. To check the version number, tap Version History on the Google Chrome App Store page.1(7)
  • Also, update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version available.

Now let’s get to the steps!

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Chrome.
  3. Tap Default Browser App.
  4. Finally, tap on Chrome to set it as the default browser.2(7)

Going a step further, when you tap on a link in any app (say Message or Email), it will ask you once – “Mail” wants to open “Chrome”. Tap Open. Once you allow, all future links will open directly in Chrome, without any popup on the screen.

If you want to change your default iPhone browser back to Safari, follow the steps above, and select ‘Safari’ instead of Chrome in step 4.Here’s how you can successfully change the default browser on Apple mobile devices! Except for Mail and Maps, I like all the default iOS apps. Having said that, it doesn’t sound like a significant change to me. Though, I’m sure some people have been waiting for a long time to make the switch.
